In Honor of Maria Rivers

Wage Hope to end pancreatic cancer

I am walking in honor of my beautiful Aunt Mary. She was diagnosed with Stage 4

Pancreatic Cancer on March 25, 2017 and lost her battle on July 9, 2017. My Aunt Mary

was the best wife, mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend you could ever ask

for. She was always there to lend a helping hand and always made you feel welcome in

her home. I miss her dearly and can't believe that she is gone.

I can still feel my heart sink when I heard the words that my Aunt had Pancreatic Cancer.

I didn't know much about the disease, but I knew it was deadly. I've learned that it is the

third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. and is the cancer with the lowest

survival rate, at just 9% for 5 years. It is estimated that more than 53,000 people will be

diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in the U.S. this year, and approximately 72% of

patients will die within the first year of diagnosis.

My main goal is to honor my Aunt Mary by walking to wage hope to end Pancreatic

Cancer, and to do whatever I can to help support research efforts for earlier detection and

more effective treatments, so others do not have to suffer the way my aunt did. I saw

firsthand her desire to live taken away by this horrible disease. I am walking to remember

and honor my Aunt, and help in any way so others can keep their wife, mother,

grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend a little bit longer.

I've stepped up to Wage Hope at PurpleStride, the walk to end Pancreatic Cancer. Will

you help me rewrite the future of this disease by making a donation of joining "In Honor of

Maria River's" Team today?

Purple ribbons aren’t enough. Please join me in the fight today!
