It's my least favorite word in the entire world, especially since it keeps rearing its ugly head around my family. My dad, Johnny Torres, was first diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma back in 2005, and through rounds of chemo, he kicked its ass.
But after 11 years of being in remission, cancer came creeping back in.
In July 2016, just days after my dad turned 71, he was diagnosed—pretty much out of the blue—with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. We were shocked. The disease captivated his body, and despite putting up his best fight, he unfortunately lost the battle three weeks later on August 16, 2016.
But do you know what? WE ARE STILL HERE! We are here to remember and honor him, and help in any way we can to make sure someone else gets to keep their dad, husband, brother, grandpa, and friend around a little bit longer.
Did you know pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, at just 9%? This deadly disease needs more awareness and it desperately needs a cure.
Our team has stepped up to Wage Hope at PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer. Will you help us rewrite the future of this disease by making a donation today?
