Our team is raising money in support of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by participating in PurpleStride.
We are striding to end a deadly disease at the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's PurpleStride Broward-Palm Beach 2017 Presented by Memorial Cancer Institute. It is estimated that more than 53,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States this year and approximately 72 percent of patients will die in the first year of diagnosis. You can help change these statistics.
Mark Colin was one of those statistics. In January of 2012, Mark Colin, began visiting doctors due to stomach pain. He received numerous tests from various specialists and was reassured that he did not have cancer, let alone one of the deadliest cancers. It was not until June 2012, the week before Fathers Day that he was properly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We were told he would only have 6 months to live. And we felt incredibly blessed that we had 10 months with him before he lost his brave battle on April 8, 2013 at the young age of 62.
This year, pancreatic cancer surpassed breast cancer to become the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, and it is projected to become the second leading cause by 2020. It is the only major cancer with a five-year relative survival rate in the single digits at just eight percent. We need your help to shine a spotlight on this disease and finally make progress in developing treatments and early detection tools.
