Wage Hope to end pancreatic cancer
Our team, Steely Dave, is raising money in support of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network by participating in PurpleStride.
I am walking in honor and memory of my dad, David Caraska, who passed away from pancreatic cancer at age 62 on Feb. 7, 2015, after a fiercely fought one-year, eight-month and seven-day battle. Our team name is in honor of my dad's love of the band Steely Dan and an homage to his fantasy football team name (Steely Dave). I miss him dearly, and I want to do whatever I can to help support research efforts for early detection and treatment so that others do not have to experience what he went through, and other families don't have to suffer the devastating loss that my family and I have.
I am also walking in honor and memory of soul singer Sharon Jones who passed away from pancreatic cancer on Nov. 18, 2016, and in honor of all who are currently fighting this disease, the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., and the cancer with the lowest survival rate (five-year survival rate is 9%).
It is estimated that more than 53,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the U.S. this year, and approximately 72% of patients will die in the first year of diagnosis. You can help change these statistics.
By making a tax-deductible donation to our team, you are supporting efforts to double survival for this deadly disease by 2020. Your donation will help support scientific research, government advocacy, patient services and community awareness.
Please make a donation today and help us reach our fundraising goal!
Thank you so much for helping us to Wage Hope for the thousands of individuals affected by pancreatic cancer.
