In 2014, Team YaYa was formed and we have walked in the PurpleStride event every year since. The first year we walked to honor a woman who was full of strength, determination and so much hope. Traci was an amazing wife, mother, grandma (yaya), sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to so many. In 2015 we continued walking but this time it was in her memory. We lost Traci at the very young age of 57.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancers with only a 7% survival rate of 5 years. While some think the 1% increase from last year is good news, I say it’s not good enough. More research is needed in order to reach a breakthrough in early diagnosis. In order to reach these goals we need more funding. Government funding for pancreatic cancer has decreased and stands at less than 2% of all funding for cancer research in the US. Pancreatic cancer is projected to take over the # 2 spot of the most deadly forms of cancer in this decade. Think about that, the least funded for the # 2 deadliest form of cancer.
Purple Stride is a fundraiser to bring awareness and desperately needed funds to advance in the research for a cure of pancreatic cancer. I want to see a breakthrough that allows for earlier diagnosis before pancreatic cancer rears its ugly head again in Traci's family.
With your help we can change that. Please consider joining Team YaYa on Sunday, November12th as we walk in the memory of an amazing woman. If you cannot walk please consider making a donation TODAYto this desperately underfunded cause. NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL.
