Wage Hope at PurpleStride. The walk to end pancreatic cancer.
Wage Hope to end pancreatic cancer
In 2002 my hero, my dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer, he was strong and healthy. He was a 40-year diesel mechanic and a racecar enthusiast. He had back pain which he attributed to work. When the doctors couldn't determine the cause they ordered an MRI.
So it began, his last year of life. We were actually fortunate to have this last year, for most patients by the time they are diagnosed they can be as close as weeks to a month of time remaining. There are so few symptoms that it is normally very advanced by the time it is discovered. Due to my dad's back pain, they found it and were able to give him some treatment. Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, at just 9%. There is no "cure" and not much treatment available. It spreads rapidly and is very aggressive.
