Wage Hope to end pancreatic cancer
Did you know that more than 53,000Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year? The five-yearsurvival rate is just 9%. Last year, pancreatic cancer surpassed breast cancerto become the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the Unites Statesand cancer is projected to become the second leading cause by 2020. Don’t forget that each person who dies fromthis disease is a mother, daughter, father, son, sister, brother, neighbor orfriend. We fight for every one of them.
We CAN change these statistics. Join me insupporting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's effort to fight this disease!
We will be having our annual New JerseyPurpleStride walk on November 12th in Parsippany and you can help by joining myteam "Michael's Purple Army"! This year I will amazingly become a 12 year survivor. You can run, walk, hang out or donate onlineif you're unable to join us in person.
Your donation will help fund research, provide support for patients and caregivers, and most importantly create hope! PanCAN has a number of important newinitiatives that need to be funded.
It is hard to believe that 11 years ago onNovember 26, 2005 I was in the ER, when I was told I had a tumor on thepancreas. Most of you have heard my story by now. The first year I was treated with variousradiation and chemo only to find out after a year that the cell type was misdiagnosed. I then had additional chemo for thecorrect cell type. In October of 2007, I went to Houston Texas and had a by-passof the vein as well as the required resection of the tumor and associated"Whipple" surgery. It ended up being a two day surgery due tocomplications. I was then unconscious for an additional 8 days, and spent atotal of 50 days in the hospital. I amcontinuing to undergo treatment.
I would like to thank my wife Nancy, thelove of my life, and my two extraordinary daughters Bethany and Marla. I nevercould have made this journey without the three of them. Thanks to my brotherRon, and all of my family and friends who have always been there for me.
Please join Nancy, Bethany, Charlie, Marla, Ron, and I on November 12th.
As always I thank you for your support and friendship.
