As some of you may know, PanCAN has been a truly supportive organization in my life that I’ve had the pleasure to work with for the past eight years. Without PanCAN, I could not imagine how I would get through the experience and pain of losing a loved one to pancreatic cancer. In November 2011, we lost our beloved mother, María Guadalupe “Lupe” Rin to this horrible disease. After only a five month battle, my mother passed from this life to eternal peace. I have been determined from the moment she was diagnosed in June 2011 to fight this disease so that no one has to endure the pain I did as a caregiver and a daughter.
Every year since diagnosis, I participate in PurpleStride from Sacramento to New Jersey to New York City. It’s PanCAN's main fundraising event of the year, and I’m writing to ask you to join me in the fight against pancreatic cancer. I know there are several diseases out there. In the past two years, I’ve lost other family members and have had friends that were diagnosed or currently suffering from a disease. Let’s face it, no disease is easy to endure. No disease should get more attention or funding for a cure more than the next. All I’m asking for is that you join me to STRIDE for something or someone you want to support. I stride not only for my mother, but to support patients, survivors, caregivers and friends I’ve met through PanCAN that are suffering from pancreatic cancer and/or the loss of a loved one. Stride for whomever you want to support for whatever they are suffering from. It’s a powerful thing when we can come together, and just be present - hold space for one another.
If you feel inclined to donate, please see the link below. Here are some other organizations/diseases I advocate/support for family and friends that are suffering if you wish to support another cause:
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Lyme Disease American Cancer Society American Heart Association Prostate Cancer HIV/AIDS
If you’re unfamiliar with pancreatic cancer and want the facts: Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, at just 9%. Every dollar that you donate ensures that the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network can continue working to create better outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients and their families. By donating to our team, you are supporting vital efforts to double pancreatic cancer survival by 2020.
This deadly disease has stolen our best and our brightest, but it can’t take away our DETERMINATION to fight back!
