In October of 2015, at the age of 42, I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Statistically, it's a death sentence. There is simply no cure. I've battled on for just about 4 years now, managing to beat the cancer back twice into a state it was no longer visible on scans, but the cancer will never go away. At this time, the best I can hope for is that the chemotherapy continues to hold the cancer at bay. Organizations like PanCan (PanCAN.org) support patients when first diagnosed, help them understand their options, fund research and, most importantly, connect patients to research opportunities. My hope is that a new research opportunity will come along that could replace chemotherapy and, if it does, PanCan will likely be the route of that discovery. It's ok if you do not donate, but if you are looking for a worthy charity, PanCan is certainly up there.
