Did you know that more than 53,000Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year? The five-yearsurvival rate is just 9%. Last year, pancreatic cancer surpassed breast cancerto become the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the Unites Statesand cancer is projected to become the second leading cause by 2020. Don’t forget that each person who dies fromthis disease is a mother, daughter, father, son, sister, brother, neighbor orfriend. We fight for every one of them.
We CAN change these statistics. Join me insupporting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's effort to fight this disease!
We will be having our annual New JerseyPurpleStride walk on November 11 th in Parsippany and you can help by joining my team "Michael's Purple Army"! This year I will amazingly become a 13 year survivor. You can run, walk, hang out or donate onlineif you're unable to join us in person.
Your donation will help fund research, provide support for patients and caregivers, and most importantly create hope! PanCAN has a number of important newinitiatives that need to be funded.
It is hard to believe that 13 years ago on November 26, 2005 I was in the ER, when I was told I had a tumor on the pancreas. Most of you have heard my story by now. The first year I was treated with variousradiation and chemo only to find out after a year that the cell type wasmisdiagnosed. I then had additionalchemo for the correct cell type. In October of 2007, I went to Houston Texasand had a by-pass of the vein as well as the required resection of the tumorand associated "Whipple" surgery. It ended up being a two day surgerydue to complications. I was then unconscious for an additional 8 days, andspent a total of 50 days in the hospital. I am continuing to undergo treatment.
I would like to thank my wife Nancy, thelove of my life, and my two extraordinary daughters Bethany and Marla. I nevercould have made this journey without the three of them. Thanks to my brother Ron, and all of my family and friends who have always been there for me.
Please join us on November 11th.
As always I thank you for your support and friendship.
