Stearns Telleria Striders: Our story
Dear Friends & Family,
Justin, Gabriel and I have been participating in Purple Stride since 2010 when Carlos was first diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Carlos lived 13 months with pancreatic cancer, and each of those months was cherished time for our family. We continue to stride each year in his memory and in honor of many friends and family that are also in the pancreatic cancer family. Each June I also travel to Washington DC to lobby Congress for funds to support pancreatic cancer research.
In recent years we have lost other dear family and friends to Pancreatic Cancer. This included Ken Schipporeit, my sister-in-law's father, and Joanne Gribble who was married to Carlos' life-long friend Bill George. Through my involvement in the Miami affiliate I have made many new friends, and was very saddened when we lost our longtime survivor Robert Glazier in February, 2018. We stride on to honor the memory of all of these warriors.
We now have two champion Congressmen and members of the Congressional Black Caucus---Rep. John Lewis and Rep. Alcee Hastings---diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and the tragic death last year of Aretha Franklin. I am committed to ensuring that we understand the impact of this disease on people of all colors and races. They are all part of our extended family and we will be connected forever.
Please make a donation today and help me to reach my fundraising goal! Thanks to you, we have been lead participants every year, and look forward to your continued support!
Much love, Janet
