Strider Stories

It was by pure chance that I went to the emergency room one day in May. Who knew what I thought was “gas pain” would change my life forever.

In 1989, Todd Horne lost his mother to the disease. Then in 2015, Todd was diagnosed with stage II pancreatic cancer.

We stride because it's what "Papa Z" would have done. Creating Team Papa Z has been one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Event Updates
PurpleStride is Back!

PurpleStride Orange County 2017 is back and better than ever! This year, our 5K run and family-friendly walk will take place on 11/18/2017, and will take participants on a lovely route at William Mason Regional Park.

Register now and join us for a day filled with hope and inspiration to raise funds, awareness and support for pancreatic cancer! Register here.

We have an event emcee!

Join us in welcoming our event emcee, John Smith! John is a well-known news anchor for NBC and was the inspiration for Kent Brockman's character on the Simpsons. He lives with his wife, Bertha, in upstate New York, but is coming all the way to LA for PurpleStride because he was banned from New York City. Learn more.

Updated Route

This year, we will have a brand new route for PurpleStride. Despite our best efforts, Exposition Park will not allow us to close down roads this year, so our route will now just be a very long walk around the event village. We can do a conga line. It will be great! Learn more.

We stride to make sure that other people have a chance, because a five year survival rate of 9 percent is unacceptable and because it's what "Papa Z" would have done.

Strider Stories

Serving as PurpleStride Team Captain of the Yes We Xan team has been a way for me to harness my energy to help my beloved son, Xan, fight pancreatic cancer.

Learn More

There's a number of other terms I could use to describe myself and our pancreatic cancer journey. But these are primary, and this is the reason I'm sharing my story. Our story.

Learn More

Like many others, my involvement with PanCAN began with the loss of a loved one. My brother, Jim, just three days after his 60th birthday and only 27 days after his diagnosis, passed away from pancreatic cancer.

In a world filled with many differences, an event like PurpleStride breaks down the differences and creates a strong bond for a cause.
