My family's world was forever changed in July 2015, when my mom, Stephanie “Fifi Ann” Altman, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She had no previous risk factors and was in sound health. Thankfully, because of our network of family friends, my parents were able to make arrangements for her to be seen by the best pancreatic cancer physicians in the country. She began her journey with chemotherapy and was responding well, and her tumor began to shrink. However, in July 2016 the tumor began to grow and spread.
My mom fights with strength and courage every day to fight this terrible disease afflicted by too many. She is nothing short of amazing and is my hero for the grace and dignity she has maintained through her fight. I have hope every day that a miracle will save her life.
My family is not alone in the fight with pancreatic cancer. In 2016, an estimated 53,070 will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States, and a staggering 41,780 will die from the disease in that same year. Early detection is nearly impossible, and at diagnosis many are given only weeks or months to live. It is one of the nation’s deadliest cancers, with a five year survival rate of just 8%, yet it is extremely underfunded, hindering research efforts.
The funds that are donated on this page will go directly toward the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, which is a network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients, and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. The goal of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is to double the survival rate by 2020. This can only be achieved if we are able to provide additional funding to support researchers, by increasing clinical trials and the enrollment rate of those trials, by educating doctors not familiar with pancreatic cancer with best practices, and creating more public awareness and visibility.
Please make a donation to not only change the outcome of those currently fighting this disease, but to also help those who will fight the disease in the future. Together we can Wage HOPE in the fight against pancreatic cancer. Thank you for visiting this page.
Peace, Hope and Love,
Update: November 12, 2016
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of so many of our friends and family, I have decided to expand my goal to $15,000 to provide even greater resources for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Thank you again for your support!
Update: November 24, 2016
Today my mom lost her battle with this monstrous disease. The grace and dignity she maintained until the very end will always make me proud to be her daughter. She fought bravely and faithfully, and has been a true blessing in my life. I will continue my fight to raise awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer in honor of my mom.
Update: November 30, 2016
Although my mom has lost her battle, I want to do everything I can to provide funding and resources that will allow others to battle this unforgiving disease. Therefore, I am pushing forward for an even greater goal of $20,000.
Update: November 2, 2017
In just 1 year, through the generosity of so many, I was able to raise nearly $40,000 for pancreatic cancer research. Today I relaunch my efforts in hopes that I can raise $10,000 more to help researchers continue the fight to find a cure for this terrible disease.
